Our director, Zairbek Kubanychbekov, discussed the long-term importance of recognizing the snow leopard as the national symbol of the Kyrgyz Republic and the key national and international initiatives for snow leopard conservation in a live broadcast on the “Birinchi Studio” of the National Television and Radio Corporation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
As you already know, during the opening of ceremony a photo exhibition dedicated to the International Snow Leopard Day, organized within the framework of the UNEP Vanishing Treasures Program, several environmental conservation organizations of the country, including our Ilbirs Foundation Public Fund, GSLEP, SLFK, and NABU Kyrgyzstan, appealed to the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, to recognize the snow leopard as the national animal.

On December 30, our President, Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov, signed a decree declaring the snow leopard the national symbol of the Kyrgyz Republic.
