📆From 19 to 22 February 2026, as part of the project ‘One Health in Nature Conservation – Improving Landscape Resilience to Zoonotic Diseases through the Consolidation of Nature Conservation Systems in Central Asia’, which is being implemented in the countries of the region with the support of IKI and IUCN, Ilbirs Foundation organised a trip to the Issyk-Kul region to conduct a census of waterbirds 🦢🦆 along the eastern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.
The winter bird counts were conducted in the Key Ornithological Territory ‘Eastern Issyk-Kul’, in the areas of 📍Yntamak, Tyup, Dzhygalan, Jeti-Oguz and Kyzyl-Suu. In total, more than 10,000 individuals of 28 species of waterbirds were recorded, which once again confirms the importance of this area as a key wintering site.
