Strong Partnerships — Tangible Results
The international expert group on mountain ungulates, *Wild Sheep Partnership for Central Asia*, is back in action. This time, the mission focused on Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, conducting monitoring of urial populations 🌍⛰
Experts from Kyrgyzstan representing the Ilbirs Public Foundation, the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Protected Areas participated in the expedition. Together, they traversed the rugged and breathtaking landscapes of Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya in Uzbekistan, as well as the “Miron” hunting concession in Tajikistan.
This was more than just a scientific mission — it was a true field expedition: challenging маршруты, remote and hard-to-access areas, unexpected challenges, and awe-inspiring moments 🌄
Yet it is precisely under such conditions that meaningful knowledge is generated. The data collected will contribute to evidence-based monitoring and inform international conservation and restoration programs for rare species 🌱
☝ As a reminder, in 2025 a joint international expert group on mountain ungulates — *Wild Sheep Partnership for Central Asia* — was established, bringing together specialists from Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan to study wild sheep populations. Within the framework of an intergovernmental Memorandum of Cooperation, the first expedition took place in the Kyrgyz Republic in December last year.
The next destinations is Mongolia 🇲🇳
And many more discoveries lie ahead.
Stay tuned! ✨
