Seminar in Tajikistan Discusses Measures to Counter Illegal Wildlife Trade

On November 20th 2017, in the sunny and hospitable city of Dushanbe, representatives of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, and other international organizations gathered to strength interagency and cross-border cooperation on combatting the illegal wildlife trade:

  • Kyrgyz State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry
  • Tajik Committee for Environmental Protection
  • State Customs and Border Services of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tatarstan
  • Kyrgyz National Academy of Sciences
  • Interpol
  • CITES
  • EcoEnforce

The Director of the Department of Natural Resource Usage shared the importance of combatting illegal wildlife trade.

There was active small-group discussion to identify priorities and measures to counter the illegal wildlife trade. Davletbakov Askar Temirbekovich from the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic gave background on incentives for wildlife trade.

By joining forces, we make a start in protecting our snow leopards, Marco Polo sheep, ibex, markhor, urial, deer, and other threatened animals!
