The Ilbirs Foundation participated in the construction of artificial ice reservoir systems in Kyrgyzstan.

From 22 to 29 June, Acres of Ice, together with the Ilbirs Foundation, successfully completed the construction of two pilot artificial ice reservoir systems in the Ton District of the Issyk-Kul Region.

📍 Kainar Site – Kun-Chygysh Aiyl Aimak (Bokonbaevo village)

📍 Achyk-Tash Site – Bolot Mambetov Aiyl Aimak (Zher-Ui village)

Over six intensive days, an international team of eight specialists worked in challenging mountain conditions to install more than 900 meters of pipeline, 200 meters of steel cable, automated valves, fountain systems, weather stations, and remote sensors that are already transmitting real-time data online.

Each site presented unique challenges—one located beside village farmlands and the other high in the mountains. Despite difficult terrain, logistical challenges, technical obstacles, and language barriers, both systems were successfully installed and commissioned.

This pilot project introduces an innovative approach to storing water in the form of artificial ice, helping improve water security, support agriculture, and strengthen the resilience of local communities to climate change.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the administrations of the Kun-Chygysh and Bolot Mambetov Aiyl Aimaks, local community members, and all project partners for their trust, collaboration, and invaluable support. This achievement was made possible through our shared commitment and teamwork.

When people are united by a common purpose, differences in language, backgrounds, and distance become secondary. Together, we are advancing innovative climate solutions and taking another important step toward a more sustainable future for Kyrgyzstan.

Together, we are building climate resilience.
